Khalilzad praises Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace, stability

RAWALPINDI: US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and appreciated Pakistan’s continuous efforts towards regional peace and stability.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during the meeting, Gen Bajwa and Khalilzad also discussed “issues of mutual interest and overall regional security situation, including Afghan reconciliation process.”

The Army chief “reiterated that our support towards peace process is a manifestation of our goodwill towards the cause”, the ISPR said.
Gen Bajwa emphasized that amidst COVID-19 situation, the track of hard-earned achievements for Afghan peace process and stability in the region should not be lost.
He also updated the visitors on Pakistan efforts for peace and Prime Minister Imran Khan’s call for international community to help alleviate the issues confronting developing world in present circumstances.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had met Zalmay Khalilzad in the federal capital on February 18. During the meeting, the prime minister had said that Pakistan facilitated the Afghan peace and reconciliation process.
The prime minister further said “We genuinely believed that after Afghanistan it would benefit the most from peace and stability in that country”.
