Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet is set to join Andy Serkis’ upcoming Middle-earth project, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, in what sources have described to Deadline as the female lead, though details of her role have not yet been revealed.
The film promises a reunion of sorts for the beloved Middle-earth team. Andy Serkis will return both as director and in the iconic role of Gollum, the complex character fans love to hate.
Peter Jackson is producing, bringing back the creative force behind the original Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies.
Winslet will join a star-studded cast that includes the return of Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Serkis himself as Gollum, roles they have embodied since Jackson’s 2001 adaptation of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the subsequent film series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendary works.
Set chronologically between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, the film follows Aragorn’s desperate mission to track down Gollum before Sauron’s forces can capture the creature, promising an action-packed journey in Tolkien’s richly imagined world.
