The federal government has announced a public holiday on February 5 in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, bringing welcome news for the public and setting the stage for an extended break in several parts of the country.
According to reports, the federal government has issued an official notification in this regard, stating that a nationwide public holiday will be observed on February 5, 2026, on the occasion of Kashmir Day.
The holiday period will begin from February 4. Earlier, the Sindh government had already announced a holiday in educational institutions across the province on February 4 on account of Shab-e-Barat, with the notification issued on January 30.
The Sindh School Education Department stated that all educational institutions would remain closed on 15 Shaban 1447 AH, corresponding to February 4, 2026, in observance of Shab-e-Barat.
In addition, holidays have also been announced in Punjab on February 6 and 7 on the occasion of Basant.
Announcing the schedule on social media platform X on Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that Punjab would enjoy a long weekend starting with Kashmir Day on February 5, followed by a Basant holiday across the province on February 6, Saturday on February 7, and Sunday on February 8.
