KARACHI: Sindh Health Department has announced that death toll in gas leakage at Karachi’s Keamari area had risen to 14 as the source of the gas leakage remained unclear.
Focal person of the Sindh health department, Dr. Zafar Mehdi, said in a statement that 14 persons have died in different hospitals during the last two days.
He said nine patients died at Ziauddin Hospital, two patients each at Civil Hospital and Kutyana Memon Hospital and one at Burhani Hospital.
Dozens of others have been hospitalized in other hospitals and officials have confirmed that 250 individuals were discharged after treatment.
Meanwhile, a protest was staged in Jackson Market of Karachi by the residents and demanded an explanation from three authorities regarding the gas leakage.
The protesters also demanded the resignation of Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi.
Last Night, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had ordered the evacuation of residents from the affected areas.
Earlier, law enforcement agencies deployed on the entrance and exit routes of the affected areas. Masks were distributed by the rescue officials among the citizens.
