KARACHI: The academic council of Karachi University (KU) on Monday approved the allocation of two percent seats for religious minorities.
As per a report in the Daily Dawn, the decision was taken in the light of a recent letter sent by the universities and boards departments, asking public sector varsities to adopt this step as a policy matter.
A spokesperson from KU stated that the admission criteria will remain unchanged for religious minorities, and students will need to complete their applications to secure admission.
The meeting, presided over by KU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Mahmood Iraqi at the Chinese Teachers Memorial Auditorium, also endorsed the anti-plagiarism policy (2.0) issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC)-Islamabad. Additionally, it approved the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan’s recommendation to allocate 10 extra admissions/seats to Gilgit/Baltistan and Balochistan in the faculty of pharmacy.
Furthermore, a committee was established to produce a report on the implementation of HEC’s affiliation policy in 2024. This report will be submitted to the KU VC and subsequently forwarded to the HEC.
