A distressing incident has emerged in Karachi’s Steel Town, where a seminary student was allegedly abducted by bandits from the Katcha area near Ghaghar Phatak.
After the matter came to light, the seminary administration approached police authorities and formally submitted an application at the office of SSP Malir, urging immediate action.
According to the application, the student, Saleem Khan, had taken leave on November 20 to visit his family in his village.
However, on November 25, a WhatsApp audio call from an unknown number revealed that Saleem had been kidnapped by dacoits from the Katcha region.
Mufti Syed Abdul Haq Shah, who filed the complaint, stated that the abducted student is being subjected to torture. On December 3, a photograph showing Saleem in handcuffs was also sent via WhatsApp.
It was further revealed that several members of Saleem Khan’s family reside in Dubai, and the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of Rs 5 million for his release.
The seminary administration has appealed to senior police officials to involve all relevant agencies to ensure the student’s early and safe recovery.
Police officials say the case is being investigated from multiple angles. It has yet to be determined from where exactly Saleem Khan was kidnapped. Police are examining mobile phone locations, evidence, and eyewitness statements, and additional security agencies may be involved if required.
