In Karachi’s Clifton area, the distribution box of a Safe City camera near Bilawal House was allegedly stolen, prompting a statement from DIG South, as reported by national media on Thursday.
DIG South Asad Raza stated that the stolen distribution box helped provide better service to the Safe City cameras. According to eyewitnesses, work was being done on the distribution box with the help of a vehicle.
There was no security or alarm system in the Safe City cameras or the connected equipment. This incident occurred on November 6, and so far no information has been obtained, according to DIG South.
He added that the distribution box is quite tall and heavy, and stealing it is not an easy task. CCTV footage is being obtained to find out how the distribution box disappeared.
Asad Raza stated that a case has not been registered regarding this incident, and investigations are underway based on the received information.
DG Safe City Project Asif Ijaz Sheikh said that after the theft, the Safe City cameras were taken down. The distribution box contains equipment worth millions of rupees. After the box was stolen, the cameras stopped working and were removed. Investigation is ongoing as the alarm did not go off when the box was stolen.
