The city of Karachi is fully prepared for the observance of the central mourning procession on the sacred day of 10th Muharram, where tributes will be paid to the sacrifices of the grandson of the Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), in an atmosphere of devotion and respect.
The procession will begin in the morning with the central majlis (mourning gathering) held at Nishtar Park, where grieving believers will wholeheartedly recite elegies and perform matam (ritual mourning). Immediately after the conclusion of the majlis, the procession will set off on its traditional routes and will conclude at its final destination at Husainian Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
On this occasion, sacred symbols such as the Alam (standard), Taboot (coffin replica), and the Zuljinah (replica of Imam Hussain’s horse) will be part of the procession, making this spiritual gathering even more impactful and deeply moving.
Strict security arrangements have also been made to ensure complete protection for the mourners. A large contingent of police and Rangers, comprising more than twenty thousand personnel, will remain vigilant day and night to guard the procession. Sniffer dogs will be used to thoroughly check the routes, and sharpshooters have been deployed on tall buildings to immediately eliminate any potential threats.
To maintain law and order during the procession, mobile phone services will be temporarily restricted in some areas, and a ban on pillion riding on motorcycles has been imposed across the city to prevent any untoward incidents.
These arrangements reflect the commitment that this sacred occasion of Muharram in the streets of Karachi will be observed not only with devotion and respect, but that the safety of the mourners will also be ensured at all costs.
