Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has said that reports indicate the use of fake number plates has increased in an attempt to avoid traffic challans, prompting authorities to launch a large-scale crackdown across the city.
Addressing a press conference alongside the CPLC Chief and DIG Traffic, the Karachi Police Chief stated that since the introduction of the e-challan system, there has been a noticeable improvement in traffic management.
He added that nearly 100,000 e-challans have been issued so far.
The Additional Inspector General of Karachi said that the practice of using fake number plates to evade challans has emerged as a serious concern. To counter this, a citywide enforcement campaign will begin from December 19, in coordination with the Excise Department.
Javed Alam Odho further stated that Excise Department personnel will be deployed on major roads. Vehicles found with tampered or fake number plates will be seized, and criminal cases will be registered against the offenders.
The police chief emphasized that the operation aims to ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws and curb illegal practices that undermine the effectiveness of the e-challan system.
