Residents of Karachi could soon face a significant increase in milk prices after dairy farmers requested a PKR100 per litre hike, which would raise the retail price to PKR340 per litre if approved.
According to details, the Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association has formally approached the Commissioner of Karachi, requesting that the official milk price be revised to PKR340 per litre.
In a letter addressed to the commissioner, Association President Mubashir Qadeer Abbasi said rising production costs—including fuel, electricity, animal feed and other operational expenses—have made it increasingly difficult for farmers to continue selling milk at the current price.
The association has also called for an emergency meeting to be convened within 48 hours to discuss the financial challenges facing dairy farmers and to identify measures to support the sector.
The Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association warned that if milk prices are not adjusted to reflect production costs, the dairy industry could face further financial strain.
