Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has declared that stringent measures will be implemented against the towns in the Central District that have permitted road cutting without the necessary approvals.
He confirmed that such instances will be forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Department, as reported by Express News on Friday.
The mayor made these remarks to the media following the inauguration of the annual Flower Show at the Jinnah Bagh Freer Hall, an event organized by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Wahab expressed significant concern regarding the ongoing road cutting activities, especially in locations where roads, constructed at considerable expense, are being excavated.
“It is intolerable that roads are being dug up to install gas lines while certain areas in the city continue to face gas shortages,” he stated.
Additionally, Wahab emphasized that the forthcoming official launch of the first phase of the Malir Expressway would enable residents to discern the quality of work being executed in Karachi. “Those who utilize the expressway will recognize who is genuinely contributing to the city’s development and who is merely making empty promises,” he remarked.
In terms of development in Karachi, the mayor praised the advancements achieved in the Central District, asserting that no other district in the city has experienced as much high-quality infrastructure development.
“Our objective is to enhance the facilities available to the general public, and our representatives and workers from the Pakistan Peoples Party are dedicated to this mission at every level,” he affirmed.
Wahab further committed to not only improving Karachi’s fundamental infrastructure but also upgrading the city’s parks with modern amenities, with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
