The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) protests, now on their eighth consecutive day, continue to disrupt traffic in Karachi as demonstrators rally against the ongoing Parachinar crisis.
Despite government warnings, the sit-ins remain at several key locations, causing significant travel disruptions and economic losses for the city’s residents and businesses.
Here’s a list of locations where MWM sit-ins are ongoing as of today:
- Safari Park (University Road)
Protesters have blocked key intersections near Safari Park, creating severe traffic congestion on University Road. - Kamran Chowrangi
The sit-in at Kamran Chowrangi has led to a tense situation, requiring the presence of additional police forces. The blockage has caused considerable delays in the surrounding areas. - Numaish Chowrangi
Demonstrators have also gathered at Numaish Chowrangi, further complicating the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in this high-traffic area.
Previously, sit-ins had been reported at several other locations, but protests at Five Star Chowrangi, Shamsuddin Azeemi Road, Surjani Town, Ancholi, and Golimar Chowrangi have now been called off. These areas were cleared to facilitate smoother traffic flow for commuters.
In addition, police were able to clear obstructions and disperse protesters at Abul Hassan Isphani Road after a brief altercation.
While the number of sit-ins has decreased from 13 to three, the ongoing blockages continue to cause major disruptions across Karachi. Authorities are working to restore traffic and clear the protest sites, but the protests remain a point of contention, with the MWM leadership committed to continuing their demonstrations until their demands are met.
