Internet services have shown some improvement in the twin cities, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, but the situation remains poor in other parts of the country, including Karachi and Lahore, where internet speeds continue to be sluggish.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to clarify these issues, leaving millions of users in the dark. It appears that the authority itself is unaware of the reasons behind the problem.
The dire internet situation has especially hit students and freelancers hard as they are struggling to meet academic deadlines and work obligations.
Meta platforms, including the likes of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, run particularly sluggishly in several cities. Users have slammed issues with uploading and downloading images, videos and voice notes.
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) are also not functioning as usual. Many users have blamed the PTA’s new firewall for the disruption in internet services, but the regulator has yet to confirm these issues or provide an explanation.
Last week, the government suspended internet services for three days to prevent peaceful protests. The protests ended on Tuesday night, but a week later, the issues persist.
