A jeweller staged a fake robbery worth Rs4 million to evade his creditors in Karachi’s Saddar area.
According to DSP Prady Liaqat Hayat, the owner of the shop on Raja Ghazanfar Ali Road, Mahzur, informed the police that two men had allegedly stolen silver and jewellery valued at PKR 4 million.
However, when the police arrived at the scene amid the reported chaos, the jeweller was calmly drinking tea, and neighbours were unaware of any incident.
During questioning, it emerged that Mahzur had reported the theft an hour after the alleged incident, and a significant amount of jewellery remained in the shop, raising suspicion.
CCTV footage from nearby establishments showed no suspects entering or leaving the premises.
Upon further investigation, the jeweller confessed that he had fabricated the robbery story to buy time and delay repayments to creditors.
The police took him to the station, but after intervention by the local traders’ association and the jeweller’s apology, the matter was settled.
