KARACHI: Deputy Superintendent of Police Ahsan Zulfiqar, who was wounded during the arrest of prime suspect Armaghan in the high‑profile Mustafa Amir murder case, died here on Monday after months of treatment in hospital, police sources said.
Zulfiqar and Constable Muhammad Iqbal were shot when they raided Armaghan’s residence in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) earlier this year.
According to police, officers forced entry by cutting the gate; the accused then opened indiscriminate fire with modern automatic weapons, sparking an hours‑long confrontation. Both injured officers were evacuated to hospital, and Zulfiqar’s condition deteriorated over time after infections developed, officials said.
Armaghan Qureshi has been implicated in the January 2025 murder of 23‑year‑old Mustafa Amir. Authorities allege Amir was kidnapped, killed at Armaghan’s DHA residence, and his body later burned in Balochistan. Armaghan and an associate, Sheraz (alias Shavez Bukhari), were indicted by a special Anti‑Terrorism Court in late February 2026; both pleaded not guilty.
In addition to murder charges, Armaghan faces allegations of opening fire on police during the raid and separate cases alleging drug peddling, money‑laundering and running an illegal call centre and hawala‑hundi operations, according to media reports and court records.
CCTV footage aired by local outlets last year showed the accused firing at the police team and using an automatic weapon during the raid; footage also reportedly captured a DSP being shot.
