The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has announced a complete shutter-down strike across the city on Saturday, following an emergency meeting held to address rising economic concerns. All commercial centres in Karachi will remain closed in protest.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, KCCI President Javed Bilwani said the decision was taken solely on economic and business-related grounds, and not due to any political affiliation.
“The business community will not become part of any political game. This strike has been called due to economic and business-related concerns,” Bilwani asserted.
He further warned the government of escalating the protest if their demands are not met. “If we are not given written assurances by the next meeting, we will extend the strike nationwide,” he cautioned.
Bilwani also raised alarms about the long-term viability of businesses in the current climate. “If these issues remain unresolved, the business community in Karachi will be left with no choice but to relocate their enterprises to Dubai or other countries,” he warned.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has announced the postponement of a nationwide strike.
