ISLAMABAD: The Capital Police has arrested senior analyst Ayaz Amir in the murder case of his daughter-in-law Sara Inam, who was killed by his son in Islamabad’s Chak Shehzad suburb on Friday.
The 37-year-old was living at a farmhouse in the area where she was found dead on Friday morning. She was reportedly murdered with a dumbbell.
According to sources, Sara and Shahnawaz had an altercation over a domestic issue on Thursday night which led to her death as the accused allegedly had hit her in the head with an iron dumbbell.
The capital police arrested Ayaz Amir on Saturday after a district and sessions court in Islamabad issued arrest warrants for the accused’s father and his wife.
Ayaz Amir has reportedly been identified as the suspect in the case by Shahzad Town Police. They claimed that after questioning Shahnawaz, the police on Saturday secured an arrest warrant for Ayaz Amir from the local magistrate.
The top journalist will be physically remanded before the magistrate on Sunday.
A day after being detained for the murder, Shahnawaz was earlier that day given to the police on a two-day physical remand.
The defense attorney for the prisoner referred to the case as a “blind murder,” adding that the murder was only committed to the extent of the charge and that as this was the case’s first remand, there were no objections.
The police had initially asked the court for a 10-day physical remand, claiming that the accused needed to be questioned. In order to allegedly murder his Canadian-Pakistani wife, they said the suspect had called her from abroad.
However, the court only approved a two-day remand for the accused.
