Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced the Gaza Million March for Sunday, January 12, at Sea View, Karachi, to show solidarity with Palestinians facing Israeli oppression.
According to a report by ARY News on Sunday, the march will start from Nishan-e-Pakistan in the evening, and JI Karachi chief Munem Zafar has urged all Karachi residents to join and stand united with the people of Gaza.
During preparations for the event, Munem Zafar highlighted the genocide and siege in Gaza, noting that over 85% of the territory has been destroyed by Israel, supported by international forces. He stressed that Palestine, as the land of Prophets and the site of the first Qibla, holds sacred significance for Muslims, and its freedom is a matter of faith for the entire Muslim Ummah.
The United Nations has reported that since October 2023, over 46,000 Palestinians, including a majority of women and children, have been killed in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Pope Francis has intensified his criticism of Israel’s military campaign, describing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as “very serious and shameful.” In a recent address, read on his behalf as he recovers from a cold, the pope condemned the bombing of civilians and the destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure, which has left children freezing to death due to the lack of electricity and destroyed hospitals.
The address, delivered to Vatican-accredited diplomats from 184 countries, also covered other global issues, including the war in Ukraine, climate change, and anti-Semitism. The Israeli ambassador to the Holy See was among those present. Pope Francis, who usually avoids taking sides in conflicts, emphasized the need for peace and the protection of innocent lives.
