KARACHI: The leader of the Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chapter, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman, has expressed grave concern about the rising crime rate in the metropolis and the local police’s inaction in protecting the lives and properties of its citizens.
Addressing a news conference here on Monday, the JI leader saidthe current situation in Karachi is dire with a staggering 21 thousand incidents occurring in the last three months alone, resulting in 34 thousand people being injured.
Blasting local police for its inaction, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman expressed concerns that investigations were not being conducted properly, leading to people living in fear and feeling unsafe when leaving their homes.
He added that people are hesitant to report incidents of theft or loss of property, including phones and jewelry, due to the prevailing atmosphere of fear.
The Karachi JI leader highlighted the shortage of police officers in the city and questioned how the thousands of drug dens could exist without the knowledge and will of the police. He also alleged that the police department is not working to reduce crime but is instead increasing it.
