KARACHI: The chief of Jamat-e-Islami Karachi Chapter, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman has claimed that his party has won over 100 seats in second phase of Local Government elections held yesterday in Karachi and Hyderabad.
Addressing a news conference, he said the turnout in yesterday’s LG polls remained around 25%, and the masses rejected elements who wanted them not to cast their votes, a direct reference to MQM which boycotted the elections. He also claimed that even supporters of PPP, PTI and MQM voted in favor of JI.

He said JI would accept fair mandate of other parties where ever they had won.
Hafiz Naeemur Rahman said there was some ambiguity in elections results at 10 to 15 seats, and Returning Officers (RO) had withheld results despite lapse of 18 hours n ow, and efforts were being underway to manipulate the same.

He demanded authorities to prevent ROs from manipulating election results, and warned that if any obstacle was created in the way of JI’s candiadte to clinch Mayor seat, ‘our options are open.” Hafiz Naeem said “we think that we are going to take simple majority (in Karachi LG elections).”
