Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday, during which she commended Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating recent United States–Iran talks held in Islamabad.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders discussed the “Islamabad Talks,” where delegations from Washington and Tehran engaged in extended negotiations hosted by Pakistan. Takaichi appreciated Islamabad’s constructive role in promoting dialogue, describing it as major for regional stability and global energy security.

She reiterated Japan’s full support for peace initiatives, stressing that sustained diplomacy is essential for maintaining stability in the region and safeguarding global energy supplies.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Japanese leader for her positive remarks and expressed appreciation to both the US and Iranian delegations for their extensive discussions in Islamabad.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace efforts and ensuring that any ceasefire remains intact.
The prime minister also conveyed Pakistan’s desire to further expand bilateral relations with Japan. Prime Minister Takaichi reciprocated the sentiment, and both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on regional and global issues going forward.
