The Oxford Union, a renowned student debating society at Oxford University, held a heated discussion on the motion, “This House Believes Israel is an apartheid state responsible for genocide.”
The debate culminated in a decisive vote, with 278 members supporting the motion and 59 opposing it.
During the event, the society’s president strongly criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, referring to them as a “holocaust.” The debate also saw the ejection of a pro-Israel speaker from the chamber, further intensifying the atmosphere.
The debate featured prominent speakers from both sides. Advocating for Israel were Natasha Hausdorff, a British lawyer, Jonathan Sacerdoti, a journalist for i24 News, Arab Israeli activist Yoseph Haddad, and Mosab Hassan Yousef, an Israeli defector and former intelligence asset.
Opposing Israel were Norman Finkelstein, an American political scientist, Miko Peled, an Israeli-American author, Susan Abulhawa, a Palestinian-American writer, and Mohammed El-Kurd, a Palestinian poet and activist.
The Oxford Union, located in Oxford, England, is predominantly comprised of students from Oxford University, one of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions.
