QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Sarfaraz Bugti revealed on Monday that security agencies had foiled a major terrorist plot targeting Islamabad with the arrest of a female suicide bomber in a significant intelligence-led operation.
Addressing a press conference in Quetta, the chief minister said the woman was apprehended before she could execute the planned attack, adding that terrorists had coerced her into becoming a suicide bomber by threatening to kill her father if she refused.
“Terrorists trap women and exploit them for their nefarious designs. This heinous act has nothing to do with Balochism,” CM Bugti stated.
According to the chief minister, the arrested woman confessed during initial interrogation that she was tasked with carrying out a suicide attack in Islamabad. He credited intelligence agencies for timely action that “saved the country from major disaster.”
CM Bugti condemned the use of women in militancy, calling it “extremely shameful” for terrorist groups. “International masters are pleased by using girls in terrorism,” he remarked, without naming any specific organization.
He further announced that the woman would be handed over to her father, stressing that the state’s approach remained corrective and protective towards those exploited by militant outfits.
The chief minister did not disclose the date of the operation or the identity of the arrested woman, citing security reasons. Details regarding which agency led the arrest and whether any accomplices were detained were also not shared.
