Islamabad Police try to arrest Imran Khan from Lahore’s Zaman Park

LAHORE: A large number of workers of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) gathered spontaneously after reports that a team of Islamabad Police, with support of hundreds of Punjab Police personnel, has arrived at Zaman Park, the Lahore residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, to arrest him due to warrant issued in Toshakhana case.

This came just after reports that the police in Islamabad had been put on a red alert  with all the policemen directed to report to their respective police stations. Anti-riot unit personnel have been supplied with tear-gas shells, the sources said, adding over 1,000 cops have been ordered to remain on alert.

In Lahore, party leaders gave an urgent call to workers, asking them to rush to the Zaman Park as police may arrest party chairman any time.

PTI Lahore President Sheikh Imtiaz on Tuesday said the PDM government is not giving up and the police can reach Zaman Park any time, urging party workers to gather outside their leader’s residence as soon as possible.

Earlier, Deputy Inspector General Operations of Islamabad police Syed Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari has arrived in Lahore in connection with non-bailable arrest warrants of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

DIG Shahzad Bukhari along with Lahore police officials arrived at Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park. When asked about his  intention, the DIG said he was there to comply with court orders and arrest Khan. When asked as to where they would keep Khan after his arrest, the DIG said ‘let him get arrested first, will keep you informed and updated.”

SSP Civil Lines Sarfaraz Virk was also among the police party which is backed by an armoured personnel carrier (APC) and is also carrying Imran Khan’s non-bailable warrants.
