In a bid to reduce pollution and noise, while improving commuting convenience, particularly for students, seniors, and women, the government has launched electric bus service in the federal capital.
Up to 30 busses will be in operation on the two routes—from Nust to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and from Pims to Bari Imam. Every passenger will pay a flat fee of Rs 50 to the CDA. In addition, a fleet of 70 buses has arrived in Islamabad and will be used on 11 more routes following a month-long training program for the drivers and their assistants.
In the next few months, CDA will also receive the last fleet of 60 buses increasing the total number to 160.
Initially, 30 buses will serve two primary routes:
NUST Orange Line Depot (G-11) to PIMS Hospital, stopping at G-11 Markaz, G-10 Markaz, G-9 Markaz, G-8 Markaz, and PIMS Hospital.
PIMS Hospital to Bari Imam, with stops including G-7, G-6, Melody, Abpara, Ataturk Road, Serena Hotel, Foreign Office, Radio Pakistan, and Diplomatic Enclave.
The city aims to extend the service to 11 routes connecting various stations and landmarks across Islamabad.
