Islamabad citizens protest against enforced disappearances

ISLAMABAD: Activists of human rights organisations, members of civil society, and citizens of the federal capital today (Monday) have staged a protest against the enforced disappearances on the occasion of International Day of Enforced Disappearances.

According to details, the protest was organized by the Defence of Human Rights outside the Islamabad Press Club. The protesters, including women and children, who were carrying portraits of their loved ones demanded the immediate release of all the ‘disappeared’ persons.

On the occasion, the Chairperson of the human rights body, Amina Masood Janjua has criticized the government for the unsolved cases of disappearances. “We will continue our protest till our loved ones are recovered,” she added.

Pakistan People’s Party leader Farhatullah Babar, on the occasion, said that he had participated in the protest to express solidarity with the families of the missing persons.

He further said that the victims’ families want to know the reason behind the illegal and enforced disappearances. He also urged the international human rights bodies and the United Nation to take notice of the issue.

The protestors have said that it was unjust to pick up any citizen clandestinely and make him disappear. They said that federal and provincial governments must play their role in the safe recovery of all missing persons.
