If a smartphone gets buried in the ground, it’s usually considered beyond repair, but an iPhone 17 Pro in the Philippines has defied the odds.
During Typhoon Kalmegi, the device was buried in thick mud yet emerged fully functional days later.
According to a post shared on the social media platform Reddit, a resident of the Philippines said his home was destroyed during the storm, forcing him to flee for safety.
“I climbed onto the roof to avoid drowning but slipped and fell into the floodwater,” he wrote. The man said he spent about 15 minutes in the water before managing to escape, but in the chaos, his iPhone 17 Pro slipped from his hand and was carried away by the muddy current.
The phone remained missing for three days. When the floodwaters receded and his injuries began to heal, the man returned to what was left of his home, only to find his iPhone half-buried in mud.
“To my surprise,” he said, “after cleaning and charging it, the phone turned on immediately. There wasn’t a single scratch on the screen, and it worked perfectly fine.”
