KARACHI: Sardar Sarfaraz, Director of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), on Tuesday has said that the cold weather in the city was expected to worsen in January 2020.
Sardar Sarfaraz said that Karachi earlier had recorded its lowest temperature at 9.2 ° C. But now in the current winter season, the city has recorded its lowest temperature at 9.5 ° C prior to the current record.

He further said that western winds from January 3 are expected to enter from Balochistan which will bring rain in Balochistan and Sindh.
The present winter season is on a spree to break all previous records, as mercury in Peshawar fell after 36 years to a freezing -1 ° C. On the other hand, Karachi recorded its lowest (9.2 ° C), while Skardu hit a -21 ° C freeze.
Regarding the record-breaking temperatures this week in Karachi, the education department of Sindh is expected to increase the winter holidays, while on the other hand, the Punjab government has already increased the winter holidays till January 15.
