Indian police say concern spread in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu, near the Line of Control, after a local child caught a pigeon in a border village.
The bird has been labelled “suspicious” and is currently being investigated on allegations that it was being used for spying for Pakistan.
According to details, a boy named Aryan caught the pigeon in the morning. The bird reportedly had black markings on its wings and was fitted with two rings in red and yellow colours. Despite the bird’s harmless appearance, police took it into custody for questioning.
Police officials claim that inscriptions reading “Rehmat Sarkar Rizwan 2025”, along with certain numbers, were found on the rings. Indian media reports have suggested that these markings raised suspicions about the pigeon’s origin and purpose.
It is worth noting that in the past as well, Indian authorities have detained pigeons found in border areas on similar grounds.
However, such incidents have often attracted ridicule internationally, with critics saying they tend to bring embarrassment rather than strengthening India’s case at a global level.
