India dismissed Australia for 238 after tea on the fourth day of the first test at Perth Stadium on Monday to secure a resounding 295-run victory and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Australia has not beaten India in a test series since 2015 and now face an uphill task to do so over the remaining matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
India declared their second innings at a commanding 487/6, setting Australia a daunting target of 534 runs. The Australian side struggled to match the intensity, losing wickets at regular intervals and ultimately succumbing to a 295-run defeat.
India’s bowlers led the charge, with Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah taking three wickets each. Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana also chipped in effectively, claiming two wickets apiece.
Despite India’s dominant bowling display, Travis Head shone for Australia with a resilient 89, while Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey contributed with scores of 47 and 36, respectively.
