ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan made history by breaking his own record of winning most seats of the National Assembly in by-elections held yesterday.
According to official data available from multiple official and unofficial sources, Imran Khan defeated his rivals including MQM in NA-239 Karachi, ANP in NA-31 Peshawar, JUI-F NA-22 Mardan, ANP in NA-24 Charsadda, PML-N in NA 108 Faisalabad, and PML-N in NA-118 Nankana Sahib-II.
This was for the first time in Pakistan’s electoral history that the PTI Chairman Imran Khan was contesting elections on seven of eight NA constituencies. Mehr Bano Qureshi, daughter of senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi was contesting elections against Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son Ali Musa Gillani on NA-157 Multan.
Political record suggests that no leader has even contested elections on seven NA constituencies in the entire political history of the country, let alone winning so much.
Pakistan’s past history narrates the former premiers Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Imran Khan have contested elections on five seats. Zulfiqar Bhutto had won elections on four seats while Imran Khan had won all five constituencies in 2018 elections.
