IHC to hear Nawaz Sharif’s appeal in Al-Azizia reference today

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear the appeal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif against his sentence in Al-Azizia reference today.

A two-member bench of the IHC will hear the appeal. A report related to the implementation of Nawaz Sharif’s arrest warrant will also be submitted in the court. During the previous hearing, Justice Amir Farooq remarked that Nawaz Sharif’s appeal against the decision of the accountability court is also under hearing.

“We have started the process of ensuring Nawaz Sharif’s attendance in court,” he added. On behalf of the federation, Additional Attorney General Tariq Khokhar argued that arrest warrants dispatched by post have been received after which the court adjourned the hearing until today.

Earlier on 1st September, the IHC ordered the former prime minister to surrender before the court in Al-Azizia reference. The court also directed the federal government to submit all records regarding Nawaz Sharif by September 10 but Nawaz Sharif had not appeared before the court.

It is pertinent to mention here that on 17th September, the Islamabad High Court Registrar Office started implementing the orders and issued notice to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for taking steps to arrest former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
