Khan left Lahore this morning for Islamabad to appear before Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal, who was all set to frame charges against him on Feb 28, but his lawyer sought exemption from the hearing as he had to appear before other courts in the capital city. The judge had then issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the PTI chief, which remained valid till to date.

Imran Khan had given written undertaking to appear before the said judge on Saturday (today) after which the Islamabad High Court on Friday suspended arrest warrants issued against him.

Stringent security measures have been put in place outside the judicial complex in Islamabad’s G-11, where Imran is expected to arrive by noon. A large contingent of police has been deployed to the area to take charge of security.

The Islamabad administration on Friday night imposed Section 144 in the capital, prohibiting private companies, security guards, or individuals from carrying weapons. It is mandatory for drivers to carry their vehicle registration documents while driving.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday at Srinagar Highway Entry point, IG Akbar Nasir claimed that fool proof security arrangements had been made, all aimed to provide protection to Imran Khan and not to stop him (from reaching court).

Akbar Nasir Khan said a terror incident had taken place in Islamabad some two months back while a number of police personnel lost their lives in a terror incidents in KP.

He urged upon the masses not to create difficulties for the security personnel and cooperate with the police. He said the road blocks would be removed after Imran Khan’s appearance in the court, adding that road restrictions were introduced only at two points.

When asked about the possibility of arresting Imran Khan today, IG Akbar Nasir Khan said “I cannot talk about probabilities.”
