An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded late Tuesday night outside the residence of Member of the National Assembly Mubarak Zeb in Bajaur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing partial damage to the property, police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to Bajaur District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique, the device had been planted at the main gate of the house.
“The explosion occurred during the night while the MNA was not present at home,” DPO was quoted as saying in Dawn.com.
A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, and a search operation is currently underway to apprehend those responsible.
In a statement, Zeb assured that his family and nearby residents were unharmed. He condemned the attack, vowing that such acts of violence would not deter him. “I remain committed to continuing the mission of my martyred brother, Rehan Zeb,” he said.
Zeb is among the PTI-backed independent lawmakers who faced party action after voting in favor of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, contrary to the party’s position.
The incident follows heightened tensions in the region. Last month, four children were injured when a mortar shell struck a house in the Lowi Mamund tehsil of Bajaur, reportedly fired from an unidentified location.
