The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly issued a warning to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding its refusal to feature “Pakistan” on the Indian team’s Champions Trophy kits as part of the tournament logo.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9. According to NDTV, the ICC has delivered a clear message to the Indian board, emphasizing that all teams are required to include the tournament logo on their jerseys.
“It is the responsibility of every team to display the tournament logo on their kits, and compliance with this rule is mandatory,” NDTV reported. The ICC dismissed the BCCI’s argument that it was unwilling to include “Pakistan” on the jerseys due to political sensitivities.
“The Indian board has been informed by the ICC that the Indian team is obligated to display ‘Pakistan’ on their kits, as Pakistan is the original host nation for the tournament,” the report added.
India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral cricket since the 2012-13 series. To address India’s concerns regarding matches being played in Pakistan, the ICC, with the mutual agreement of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and BCCI, recently adopted a two-way hybrid model.
Under this arrangement, all matches involving India during the eight-nation Champions Trophy will be held in Dubai.
