New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra bagged the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for October 2023 on Friday after an impressive campaign during the ICC World Cup 2023.
Ravindra beat India’s Jasprit Bumrah and South Africa opener Quinton de Kock in the race for the award.
The 23-year-old scored an unbeaten 123 against England in the World Cup opener and then added another century later in the month when he scored 116 against Australia.
In total Ravindra accumulated 406 runs at an average of 81.20 through New Zealand’s first six matches at the mega event to help put the Kiwis on the brink of a semi-final berth at the tournament.
“I’m very grateful to win this award,” Ravindra said from India.
“It’s been a special month personally and for the team. Being able to play a World Cup in India has been incredibly special.”
“Being backed by the team helps a lot, being able to go out there with a lot of freedom, and play your natural game.
“The lucky thing is the wickets have been nice to bat on, suits my game in terms of being positive and taking the game on.”
Meanwhile, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews was crowned the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for October 2023.
Bangladesh spinner Nahida Akter and New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr were also in the running for the award.
The 25-year-old scored 99*, 132, and 79 in a Player of the Series performance during the T20I component of the West Indies tour of Australia
Matthews also bowled an excellent spell of 3/36 during the second match of that three-game series to lead her side to victory.
