Officials in Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the moon in the country and said that today would be the first day of Zil Hajj in the kingdom.
According to a statement by the Saudi Supreme Court, “Arafat Day will be Saturday, June 15, while Sunday, June 16, will be the first day of Eid al-Adha.”
According to the news agency, the day of Arafat will be on the ninth day of Dhul-Hajj, which will be on June 15, similarly, the holy month will begin on June 7, which is the first day of Eid al-Adha will be June 16.
The sighting of the moon marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Dhul-Hajj, in which Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated after performing Hajj.
The first day of Eid-ul-Adha falls on the 10th of Zil-Hajj. The day of Arafat falls on the 9th of Dhul Hajj. One of the five pillars of Islam, Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which every Muslim must do at least once in their lifetime if they can afford it.
A meeting of the Central Sawing of the Crescent Committee will be held today to see the moon of Zil Hijjah in Pakistan, in which an announcement will be made regarding the moon.
