A report has revealed that government employees annually use 34 crore units of electricity in Pakistan.
Sources suggest that the Power Division has subtly concealed this revelation by giving a proposal to discontinue free electricity for government officials from grade 17 to 21. They assert that discontinuing free electricity for 15,000 employees won’t make a significant difference, but instead, it’s essential to terminate the free electricity benefit for all employees to achieve substantial savings.
According to the document, it has been disclosed that 15,971 employees from grade 17 to 21 consume 70 lakh units of free electricity per month. In contrast, employees from grade 1 to 16 are utilizing 33 crore units of free electricity per month, with a count of 1,73,200. These government employees are using free electricity worth 10 billion annually.
As per the document, employees from grade 17 to 21 are using free electricity worth 125 crore annually, while employees from grade 1 to 16 are consuming free electricity valued at 76 crore and 43 lakh rupees per month.
The Ministry of Energy officials state that discontinuing free electricity for employees from grade 17 to 21 would result in a monthly savings of 19 crore rupees. Integrating the funds saved from ending free electricity units into the salaries would further reduce this difference.”
