The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday issued a public warning regarding fraudulent activities involving individuals impersonating HEC officials and operating fake websites to steal sensitive information.
In a post shared on its official X account, the HEC stated: “Public Alert: Scammers are impersonating HEC and using fake sites to steal information. HEC never requests OTPs, passwords, or banking details. Please report any suspicious activity to us.”
The warning was accompanied by a short awareness video emphasizing that the HEC does not make calls for payment verification or request personal credentials such as one-time passwords (OTPs), account passwords, or banking information.

The commission urged the public to remain vigilant against scam calls and counterfeit websites. It strongly advised against sharing any personal or financial details with unauthorized individuals.
HEC further clarified that it operates through a single, official website, and all authentic information is available exclusively on that platform.
Citizens were encouraged to report any suspicious websites or calls to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) or the National Response Centre for Cyber Crime (NR3C) for immediate action.
