Haripur police accused of torturing man

HARIPUR: A young man was allegedly tortured by some officers of the district police over fake rape cases in the Padhana area of Haripur.

Parents of the victim claimed that their son, Azmaturehman had been allegedly arrested over a fake rape case after he failed to give an enormous bribe demanded by police.

The father of the victim, Muhammad Ajaz said that ASP Qais Khan and Sub-Inspector Abdul Rashid of Elite Force, wanted the youngster to pay them an enormous bribe. When he refused to do so, they warned him that he could be framed in a fake case and arrested.

Later, the victim’s father said the police officers raided his house and arrested his son.

Instead of taking him to the jail cell, lodging a proper FIR against him and present him before a magistrate within 24 hours, the police officers allegedly kept him in a torture cell, Ajaz said.

They further claimed that their son has been illegally detained for several days by the police. During this time he was severely tortured. “My son’s mental condition has deteriorated and there are signs of violence all over his body,” he added.

He further said, “My son was treated by a psychiatrist but after 14 months my son is mentally paralyzed but we have not been able to get justice yet.”

The beleaguered father urged the IGP Punjab, Human Rights Commission to take notice of the injustice meted out to them.
