Born Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, he was born on December 12, 1950 in a Marathi family in Bangalore. He worked as a bus conductor before pursuing his dream of acting.
He was noticed by director K. Balachander, who gave him the name Rajinikanth and launched his career in the Tamil film industry.

He remains remarkably fit, which is attributed to a strict diet where he avoids “five whites,” including refined sugar and white salt.
Rajinikanth is a recipient of India’s third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan.
He is affectionately known to his massive fanbase as “Thalaivar” (Leader).
