ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to raise power tariff by Rs14.24 per unit to collect Rs55 billion from consumers in electricity bills deferred due to floods last year.
The Energy Ministry has sent recommendations to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to charge Rs14.24 per unit in electricity bills in the wake of fuel adjustment charges, ARY News reported on Thursday.
Customers who use 200 units or fewer of electricity each month will be charged a premium of Rs. 10.34 per unit, while customers who use up to 300 units would be charged Rs. 14.24 per unit. Similarly, over the course of eight months, farmers will pay the government Rs9.90 per unit.
Customers of Karachi Electric (KE) will pay Rs13.87 per unit in fuel adjustment fees at that time. After receiving Nepra’s approval, the process to collect the charges would be started.
Earlier, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved 50 paisa per unit hike in electricity tariff.
In response to an adjustment made in the second quarter of the current year, the electricity firms had filed a case for the recovery of 17 billion rupees.
When the hearing was over, the NEPRA made an announcement that it will provide a thorough decision following an analysis of the numbers.
