The government has decided against forming a judicial commission for the May 9 incident, as requested by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which could potentially result in a deadlock in ongoing negotiations between the two parties.
According to media reports, the negotiation committee reviewed PTI’s written demands submitted during the third round of talks but ultimately rejected the proposal for a judicial commission.
Officials argue that the cases related to the May 9 events are already being processed in the courts, deeming additional inquiries unnecessary.
Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that the party would abandon talks with the government by January 28 unless they are granted permission to meet with party founder Imran Khan, who is incarcerated.
Although negotiations between the government and PTI began in late December to ease political tensions, progress has been slow, with key issues such as the formation of a judicial commission and the release of PTI prisoners remaining unresolved.
