ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday notified a fresh increase in the price of kerosene oil, raising it by Rs.4.66 per litre, even as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected a recommendation to hike the rates of petrol and high-speed diesel.
According to the notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, the new price of kerosene oil has been set at Rs.433.40 per litre, up from the previous rate of Rs.428.74. The revised price came into effect today, Saturday, March 28, marking another period of financial tightening for consumers across the country.
This latest adjustment follows a massive hike of Rs.70.73 per litre announced just last week, further compounding the burden on the public. While the Prime Minister opted to maintain the prices of petrol and diesel to provide a semblance of relief to the transport sector, the repeated surge in kerosene rates has drawn significant public attention and criticism.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kerosene oil is a vital commodity for low-income households, particularly in rural areas where it serves as a primary source for cooking and heating. The latest price hike is expected to impact household budgets heavily, especially in regions lacking access to natural gas infrastructure.
As fuel prices remains a sensitive political and economic issue, this change is expected to dominate public discussion in the coming days, highlighting the growing pressure on the country’s most vulnerable sectors.
