ISLAMABAD: The Federal government on Monday announced to initiate an investigation into recent audio leaks in which PTI Chairman Imran Khan is allegedly discussing Cipher and its related issues.
The announcement was made by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb while addressing a press conference here on Monday. Her remarks came days after federal cabinet revealed that the cipher, center of controversy between the PTI and PDM-led government, had gone missing.
Marriyum Aurangzeb said her government had assigned a team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to look and investigate into the matter ‘without any political interference.’
Citing the audio leaks, she alleged that the PTI Chief was discussing to ‘play with it (cipher), and that in an interview, he (Imran Khan) had admitted that the diplomatic telegram had gone missing. She expressed government’s determination that the matter of cipher would be taken to its logical conclusion.
Marriyum Aurangzeb alleged that by playing with ‘cipher issue’ and amending its minutes, PTI Chairman Imran Khan violated the Secret Act and made compromises on national interests. Terming it as an unforgivable act, she said Imran Khan made the President, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and others to violate the Secret Act as well.
She claimed that the audio leaks had exposed reality of PTI’s entire narrative as in the audio, Imran Khan was allegedly heard asking party leaders not to name the US during the course of their cipher-centered campaign.
