KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has said he will write a letter to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to launch an investigation into overbilling by K-Electric.
Speaking to a private news channel, the governor said that if proven, without any justifiable reason, that the power utility has been overcharging customers then he would ensure that every single penny is returned to the people.
The governor said that the federal government was strictly observing the company’s operations and action will be taken if any unannounced power outages take place.
He hoped that unannounced loadshedding has ended after Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar’s meeting with K-Electric and NEPRA officials last weekend.
Governor Ismail said they want to give the company a fair chance to improve and work for the people of Karachi but will not let the people of the city suffer. He added the prime minister was serious about resolving the issues of Karachi.
Regarding the decision to take over K-Electric, the governor said that the decision to privatise the power company was taken in haste and performance deteriorated.
