Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has offered traders and industrialists in Karachi that if anyone receives an extortion note, they should bring it directly to him and he will personally pay the demand.
Speaking at the “My Karachi” exhibition held at the Expo Centre, the governor said that seeing Lahore’s development was encouraging and expressed hope that Karachi would also progress, God willing.
He said traders and industrialists had complained about receiving extortion slips, adding: “If anyone receives such a note now, bring it to me — I will pay the extortion myself.”
Commenting on fire incidents in Karachi, Tessori said fires do occur but there must be proper arrangements and a clear strategy to deal with them.
He added that philanthropists had been approached to provide 50 fire tenders for the city and expressed hope that progress would be made soon.
The governor said Karachi contributes around Rs250 billion annually to charitable organisations and plays a vital role in Pakistan’s economy, making its development essential.
He further stated that there was no fear of Indian-sponsored terrorists, adding that Pakistan would respond decisively, as it had in the past.
He claimed that the world was aware of Indian-backed militant activity operating from Afghanistan.
