The Punjab government has officially announced summer vacations for public and private schools and colleges, as reported by national media.
According to Punjab’s Secretary of School Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, the vacations will start from June 1 and continue until August 9, 2025. He stated that if the temperature rises further in the coming days, the vacation schedule remains open for revision.
He said, “If the heat reaches an unusual level, the vacations could begin a week earlier as well. The health and safety of students and staff is our top priority.”
The School Education Department has finalized all necessary arrangements for the vacation period. This announcement comes at a time when experts are increasingly concerned about the educational, health, and economic impacts of climate change and prolonged heatwaves.
On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also issued precautionary guidelines for schools before the vacations, which include the following measures:
-
Ensuring classrooms are well-ventilated
-
Making sure fans and other cooling equipment are functioning properly
-
Setting up first aid counters in schools
-
Training staff to handle heat-related medical emergencies
These measures reflect the government’s prioritization of student and teacher welfare in view of the intense weather conditions and show systematic planning to mitigate potential risks.
