Karachi Police has arrested the main accused involved in the alleged ‘gang rape’ of a girl in Ittehad Town, Karachi.
According to a statement issued, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Keamari Captain (retd) Faizan Ali said that the Ittehad Town police had registered a case of gang rape a day ago.
He said that the incident occurred on July 1, when the arrested accused forcibly put the victim on his motorcycle and took her to his house in Ittehad Town, where he, along with his accomplices, gang-raped the victim.
The SSP said that the victim managed to escape at night and reached her maternal uncle’s house, after which the police were informed about the incident. He said that the girl was medically examined at the Civil Hospital Karachi, and then a case was registered.
The SSP said that the main accused was arrested within a few hours of the case being registered, while operations are underway to arrest the other accused.
He further said that such monsters are a cancer to society, and strict action will be taken against them.
It should be noted that although there are anti-rape laws in the country under which rape is punishable by death penalty or 10 to 25 years in prison, such incidents continue to occur.
