BERLIN: Germany has pledged 120 million euros to Pakistan to combat the effects of climate change.
On the occasion of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin, Federal Minister of Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman, held a bilateral meeting with a delegation of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation of Germany.
Discussions at the meeting focused on three main themes, including better protection against floods, sustainable infrastructure for renewable energy, and expanding social protection programs to help vulnerable groups facing environmental shocks.
German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze promised that Germany will provide assistance of 12 billion Euros to Pakistan to support these initiatives.
He said that along with technological solutions to control climate change, it is also important to prepare societies to better deal with severe weather impacts in the future.

Sherry Rehman thanked Germany and said that this initiative will help Pakistan in building capacity for climate risk assessment, climate risk profiling in different parts of the country, and mainstreaming climate education.
In the end, discussions were also held on other possible areas of cooperation in the future, including the prospects of green hydrogen for energy conservation in Pakistan.
The Ministers expressed hope for the possibility of continued cooperation between Germany and Pakistan to combat the effects of climate change and advance efforts to build a sustainable future.
